What Are International Trade Missions?
If you've ever thought about taking your business into new markets but weren't sure where to start, International Trade Missions are worth a look. As a Chamber member, you have access to organised trips abroad, giving you the chance to meet potential partners, suppliers and customers face to face in markets you might not otherwise reach on your own.
Trade missions are run in partnership with the wider Chamber network, drawing on the reach of the British Chambers of Commerce and Scottish Chambers of Commerce. That means you're not going it alone. You're travelling as part of a supported delegation, with the groundwork already done on introductions and itinerary.
Why go on a trade mission?
Exporting can feel like a big step, particularly for a small business without an in-house international trade team. Trade missions take away a lot of that uncertainty. Instead of researching a market from a distance, you get to see it first hand, speak to people already doing business there, and build relationships that are hard to establish over email alone.
There's also a practical side. Delegations often include briefings on the local market, help with introductions to relevant contacts, and the chance to compare notes with other UK businesses making the same trip. It's a shortcut to knowledge that would otherwise take years to build up independently.
Who is it for?
You don't need to be an established exporter to benefit. Trade missions suit businesses at different stages, from those dipping a toe into international trade for the first time to those looking to grow existing overseas relationships.
