If you've seen the name East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce and wondered what it actually does, you're not alone. A lot of business owners in the area know we exist but aren't entirely sure what we're about. So here's a straightforward answer.

What is a Chamber of Commerce?

A Chamber of Commerce is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that exists to support local businesses and represent their interests. There are Chambers all over the UK, and they vary in size, from large city chambers with thousands of members to smaller, community-focused ones like ours.

East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce is one of 52 Chambers accredited by the British Chambers of Commerce, which means we're part of a well-established national network with real clout.

So what does that mean in practice? It means that when people in East Renfrewshire join us, they're not just connecting with other local business owners, they're connecting with a network that stretches across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Through our affiliation with Scottish Chambers of Commerce, we're also able to feed local business concerns into national conversations, whether that's around taxation, legislation, skills or economic policy.

Who can join?

Closer to home, our role is simpler: to help businesses in East Renfrewshire grow, thrive and connect with each other. Membership is open to anyone with a business interest within the East Renfrewshire local authority area, whether you're a sole trader, a small business owner, or a larger employer.

We welcome businesses from all sectors - from healthcare and construction to retail, education and everything in between.

We work closely with Business Gateway, East Renfrewshire Council and a number of local community partners, because we believe that a stronger business community benefits everyone who lives and works here.
